Mug Shots

As much as we try not to value the material over the spiritual, there are times when objects can have such a significance that we get attached to them. Some things are priceless because they're one of a kind. Some things are priceless because they're favors or souvenirs from a time or place. I know what it means to have something you love broken - my Junior and Senior prom favors, for example, were purposefully destroyed in 1989. My Spy's Demise glass, a souvenir from Milwaukee's bar "The Safe House" was broken a little while ago. So, when I accidentally broke one of Cyn's favorite mugs while unloading the dishwasher, I realize that I couldn't really replace the mug. But I could get a new mug for her.

Katiecat and I were up in a north Atlanta village and we found a place that lets you paint bisque pottery they then take and fire for you. It was nifty. I immediately knew what I wanted to paint: a mug for Cyn, to replace the one I broke. Here's what it looks like (click on the little images to see them big, and see the ALT text (hover over the image) to get a description of it).

This shows a goddess reaching for the sky This is a rendition of Shelley cat, but you can't see her whole face, because it's hidden by the mug handle. This is supposed to be a greenman sort of figure, but it really didn't come out like I liked it. Still, it's there and if you look close enough, you can make out the greenman. I was happy with the way the spiral came out. I was worried that Cyn wouldn't like the yellow, but it contrasted so nicely with the purple. And of course in this picture you can see the word "e;CYN'S"e; at the bottom of the mug...just in case anyone has any doubt whose mug it is *Grin*.
